#WEBSFiberFollowThrough: March Wrap-Up

Tuesday, April 10th, 2018
Share Button

Hey . . . wait a minute. Aren’t we already well into April? Isn’t it time for a #WEBSFiberFollowThrough update? 🙂

Every month is crazy here at WEBS, but March is one of our busiest months! In between Stitches United and planning Anniversary Sale, we are getting ready to produce our annual Valley Yarns catalog, which means lots and lots and lots of swatching and sampling. Since I spent the month of March sample knitting a new design for Valley, I didn’t  make a lot of progress with my personal knitting resolution.

Liz, our social media coordinator, however,  has been the one of the only ones out of the bunch who has been diligently knitting – and she has been veeerrrrrry busy!

She finished Andrea Mowry’s Free Your Fade shawl in several colors of Madelinetosh Dandelion – a gem from our End Of Year sale after the holidays.  We often forget that the attention to detail we put into each piece doesn’t stop with the knitting. On finishing her shawl, she said, “I pinned out each edge of that picot edge individually, so it was super satisfying to finally be able to wear this one!”.

Slowly fading from a dreamy shell pink into a speckled cream, Liz’s shawl has the perfect neutral-with-a-pop combination that we’ve all been dying to see this spring!

Liz has also been steadily working on a STUNNING sweater she’s designing as a gift for her mom out of Valley Yarns Mount Holyoke – one of our newest luxury yarns here at WEBS. Last month, Liz told me she “just reached the underarms of the cashmere sweater I’m making for my mom out of Valley Yarns Mount Holyoke. Next I’m going to cast on the sleeves and plan the colorwork chart for the yoke.”

The way those two contrasting colors pop, and the tweedy flecks running through the finished fabric are making me swoon, and totally giving me WIP envy!!

To check out what we’re working on, and for a chance to be featured, follow the #WEBSFiberFollowThrough tag on Instagram, and don’t forget to tag your posts!

. . . And don’t forget. Stash building is ALWAYS permissible during Anniversary Sale!

#WEBSFiberFollowThrough: February Wrap-Up

Wednesday, February 28th, 2018
Share Button

Wait . . . where did February go?

It’s been a short month, but we’re not short on progress over here!

Liz, our social media coordinator has been hard at work on her Free Your Fade shawl by Andrea Mowry, knit in one-of-a-kind colors of Madelinetosh Dandelion purchased during the WEBS End of Year Sale event! She says:

I’m on my last of four colors and I’m looking forward to working the picot edge in March. I’ve also made some good progress on a cashmere colorwork sweater I’m making for my mom out of Valley Yarns Mount Holyoke. I’ll share some progress pictures of that next month!

Here’s Liz’s shawl at the end of January:

And here it is today! A ton of progress made – and gorgeous!

I haven’t done much personal knitting myself, but I made a pair of mittens for a store display at WEBS, and I’ve been swatching a new design for the Valley Yarns line – but you’ll have to wait to hear more about that, so stay tuned.

In February, I thought a lot about personal organization and how it can make or break my crafting resolutions, even if  I can only manage to do it digitally.

Have you seen Ravelry’s new Project Challenge feature? It’s a way of setting deadlines and goals for your projects, and makes planning your knitting for the year a lot more manageable. Check out some of the projects I’m planning for 2018!

If you see a project you want to make, and know when you need to have it done by, you can edit your own personal due date while you’re adding it to your queue. It will be automatically added to your challenge tab!

To access your Project Challenge page, you’ll need to head over to Ravelry. On the right hand corner, next to your Ravatar, click on My Notebook and scroll down to your queue. When you’re in you’re queue, you’ll see the number of project you have, the organize tab, and the deadlines tab.

You’ll be able to check out all of the projets you have lined up for the year and their due date. I’ve been using this space to keep track of when I originally queued the project, and noting the yarn I have in my stash to use.

The Project Challenge adds a little bit of an end goal to your yearly knitting. I’m hoping it makes me feel more accomplished and helps me focus on things I want to wear and make right now, rather than letting them sit in my queue.

Next up, I’ll be tackling my favorites and library, but I’ll tell you all about that later 🙂

4 New Colors of Valley Yarn Northampton!

Friday, February 23rd, 2018
Share Button

There’s still a little bit of snow on the ground here in Western Massachusetts, but we are already thinking spring! With the coming season, we have four new colors of one of our favorites – Northampton! Northampton is a worsted weight 100% wool yarn that has all of us here at WEBS thinking about colorwork. Keep reading to see some of our picks for your newest colorwork yoke sweater, crochet blanket, or stripy scarf!

Nebula Heather

Almost a blackened charcoal color with a hint of turquoise running through the plies, Nebula Heather is a gorgeous base if you’re looking for a not-quite-neutral color to use as a backdrop for rich-looking color patterns.

Stonewash Heather

This shade of blue is just basic enough to go with anything, but it’s anything but bland. Pair it with other neutrals, like Medium Gray or Midnight Heather – we bet it would look smashing against a dark pair of jeans!

Lime

A fresh citrus-inspired green just in time for spring! This bright palette is giving us some major purple dinosaur vibes. Bring out your inner 90s kid and knit a colorful yoke sweater with this unexpected quartet of colors. Not feeling the boldness? No worries! Northampton has a huuuuge range of naturals and neutrals for a more toned-down look with a major pop of color.

Capri Blue

This bright blue already has us daydreaming of poolside days and trips to the beach. Since it’s not quite warm enough for that yet in our neck of the woods, why not use these as inspiration for your spring knitting? We’d pair this color with a hot pink and bright yellow, grounding it with a tan base.

What are your favorite color combos? Working on a yoked sweater or crocheting granny squares? Be sure to tag us on Instagram @websyarn and use the hashtag #WEBSFiberFollowthrough for a chance to be featured!
