The month of September brings us a new free pattern featuring a Fiesta yarn. This month’s pattern uses Fiesta Gracie Lace. Gracie Lace is a wonderful blend of extrafine merino, silk, and cashmere. The featured color is Vintage.
Gracie Lace Scarf is a lacy scarf that is knit holding the yarn doubled. The finished scarf is long enough to wrap around your neck several times and is incredibly soft.
The lace pattern doesn’t get lost in the color pattern of the yarn. It would look fantastic in any of the Gracie Lace colorways.
The colorway that it is shown in, Vintage, reminds me of fall. It has all the colors that we find on the trees here in New England once they start to change. Autumn is one of my favorite times of year and I love the way the color represents it.
We’re giving away a skein of the yarn and the needles to complete the project. Leave a comment with your favorite way to use lace yarn. You have until Wednesday, September 26th at 9:00am EDT.
The winner of our Raglan Hoodie Giveaway is Kristi77swe who said:
“I look forward to the colors of fall; yellow, red and orange against the blue sky! Crisp air and also it is my favorite time to go to the beach!”
You should have received an email, but if you haven’t, please email mkubasekDOThaberATyarnDOTcom with your address so we can send your prize out to you.
I loved reading everyone’s comments about the change of seasons. As much as I don’t want to wish summer away – I love the longer daylight hours and the warm weather, there’s just something about autumn that I love. Many of those things are the same that all of you appreciate – the colors, football season, the weather. I love it!
Have you had a chance to check out the latest issue of KnitSimple? The Fall 2012 issue is packed with fantastic patterns and includes a fantastic Raglan Hoodie that is knit in our Valley Yarns Berkshire Bulky.
The comfortable hoodie is accented on the cuffs and edges with a darker color. The piping is created by whipstitching the pieces after finishing. You could even try some other color combinations. For a very different look, you could use two very different colors.
This project is knit in pieces and seamed. You pick up the stitches for the hood and knit them after seaming the sweater together. It is sized S-3X with finished measurements of 38 ½” – 52.” It takes 8-13 skeins of Valley Yarns Berkshire Bulky in light blue and one in dark teal.
Would you like to win a kit to knit this sweater? Leave a comment here on the blog with what you most look forward to with the change of seasons. One comment will be randomly chosen and will receive KnitSimple Fall 2012, Berkshire Bulky in light blue and dark teal, and the needles to complete the project. You have until Wednesday, August 1st at 9:00am EDT to comment. We’ll announce the winner after that.
Congratulations to post #134 by LolaGhetz who said “I love to go snorkeling and gather sea shells. Afterwards, I enjoy relaxing with a cold drink and a good book. I tried to knit at the beach, but I kept getting sand in my yarn. :0)”
Thanks everyone for participating! You can check out the free pattern here!
We’re partnering with Fiesta over the next few months to provide you with a wonderful free pattern designed specifically for one of Fiesta’s yarns. This month, they’ve paired Fiesta Rayon Boucle with the Rayon Boucle Neck Warmer pattern.
This fairly simple scarf is knit in stockinette stitch until you reach the required length then work the ruffle end. Once you finish, you stitch together a few stitches at the opposite end to create a loop to pass the ruffle through.
You can wrap the scarf more than once as we have in our image, or you can let it hang so it’s longer. You could even leave it without the loop at the end and have a lovely scarf.
The featured color is Fiesta Rayon Boucle in wind surfer. This is a great, beachy color that reminds me of summer. We have several other colors of the yarn available too.
Would you like to knit this scarf? We’re giving away a hank of Fiesta Rayon Boucle in wind surfer. Just leave one (and only one) comment with your favorite beach activity and one winner will be chosen at random. Make sure that when you comment you include your email address so that we can contact you if you’re the lucky winner! Leave your comment by Friday, June 22, 2012 at 8:00am. We’ll announce the winner Friday morning here on the blog.
The winner of the Eucalan Gift Pack is Kelly. Kelly’s tip was: “I just learned the easy way to wash my woolens (in washing machine with eucalan, soak overnight, spin in the morning, block/lay out to dry) and it was just.so.easy! I love easy cleaning! I also recently discovered the joys of 1/2 vinegar, 1/2 dish soap (the translucent, handwashing kind) as a cleaning spray for the tub/shower walls. Spray on, leave for a bit, wipe off.”
And the winner of the Getaway Gang is Jasmine Liska. Jasmine’s helpful tip was: “Whenever I boil water for tea, I pour a bit of hot water onto the stove top to loosen the oil and whatnot that has spattered onto the stove. It makes it a lot easier to clean!”
Please contact me at mkubasekDOThaberATyarnDOTcom with your contact information.
Thank you so much to everyone for sharing your cleaning tips. There are some wonderful tips in the comments, so if you haven’t already checked them out, make sure you do!
With Spring in full force, there has been lots of spring cleaning going on. It seems like every day more of us are bringing in selections from our own stash clean-outs to pass on. I’ve packed up most of my sweaters, but before that, they got a little bath in Eucalan.
Eucalan has shared with us a Gift Pack and Getaway Gang to give away to you, but more on that later.
If you’ve never tried Eucalan, it is a no-rinse delicate wash that is available in four scents: eucalyptus, lavender, grapefruit, and unscented. It is great for washing your woolens, but it has many more uses! From your delicate handwash clothes to drapery, it’s a wonderful cleaning product that you don’t have to rinse out (so it saves on water too).
Check out this introductory video from Eucalan for more information:
Now for the giveaway! One random commenter will receive a Eucalan Gift Pack that includes 3.3oz bottles of each of the four scents, and one random commenter will receive a Getaway Gang that includes a sample size of each scent, plus a small sewing kit, Eucalan Lint Remover Sheets, and Eucalan Stain-Treating Wipes.
Leave one comment with your favorite cleaning tip by May 14th at 2:00pm EDT when we will draw the winner. And don’t forget to check out Eucalan on Facebook and their blog!
Well, the exciting news just seems to keep on coming our way as of late! We are excited to share the latest with all of you!
Steve & I submitted a 2 minute video to the National Retail Federation’s contest titled “This Is Retail“. We’ve been notified that we are a top 20 finalist which is very exciting! Over the next three weeks there will be a series of voting opportunities that can result in us advancing to the next round. When its all said and done the top three voted videos will attend the NRF’s national conference in Washington, DC in May. The top retailer will win $25,000, 2nd place is $15,000 and 3rd is $10,000. Needless to say, we’d love to be in the top 3 but first we have to get past this first round of voting.
Here’s how the voting works:
Starting April 3rd at 12:01am through 11:59pm on April 8th, we will be paired against one other video. We won’t know who it is until voting begins at 12:01am on 4/3. We will go head to head in the voting and the top vote-getter will move onto the top 10.
Round 2 (4/9–4/15) is structured the same way – each of the top 10 videos will be paired against one other video and the top vote-getter in each pairing will move on to the next round (top 5).
Round 3 (4/17–4/22) is down to the top 5. There are no match ups at this level – just general voting and the top three will go to DC.
Each individual can vote up to 10 times per day and voters must be over the age of 13.
