Special Fiber Packs for Spring Training!

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2016

We are going all in with the sports metaphors this year. We already have the Tour de Fleece in July; we needed a spring equivalent and what better event to represent skill building than Spring Training? In my last post I talked about the event we are having on March 13 – be sure to check it out and sign up if you are in the area.

Spring training is about more than the event, however. We created some great fiber pack specials to add excitement and zip to your spinning life. We started with an assortment of fibers and blends from Louet to keep things interesting and encourage spinners to try new fibers. Then we asked our friends at Frabjous Fibers to dye an exclusive colorway just for Spring Training and we added that to the pack. And because we love bonuses, we added a (not so) little bag as the icing on the cake.

Spring Training Fiber Packs at WEBS. Read more on the WEBS Blog at blog.yarn.com

The Rookie Pack features easy-to-spin fibers that are perfect for newer spinners, with enough variety to keep you from getting bored. There’s a half-pound of Blue Faced Leicester and another half-pound of Falkland, and for some fun color play there are 4 different 4-ounce bags of dyed Corriedale. The Frabjous Fiber Take Me Out to the Ballpark colorway is dyed in BFL and will amaze you with a gradient of luscious hues from the ballpark – green grass, blue skies and a touch of brown (that’s either the pitcher’s mound or the color of your uniform after sliding in to home plate).

The All Star Pack brings some different players to the field with half-pound bags of Masham, Light Grey Romney, and Medium Grey Romney. We added some color with a half-pound bag of dyed Merino/Silk and then sprinkled in a 2 ounce bag of Camel/Silk for a touch of luxury. This pack also contains 4 ounces of the exclusive Take Me Out to the Ballpark colorway, this time in a BFL/Silk base.

Remember the surprise I hinted about? As a special bonus, when you buy either of the fiber packs, you will get a free gift – a cotton tote bag for carrying your fiber and yarn. This bag is sturdy and roomy enough for some serious stash, with great shoulder straps to make it easy to carry and WEBS’ Spring Training logo on the outside pocket.

I’m pretty excited to dive into these packs (um, yeah, I may be buying both packs) and feel what it’s like to spin some fibers I haven’t tried yet. I’m not sure if I’ll start with the Romney (maybe a marled 2-ply with the two shades of grey?) or the Take Me Out to the Ballpark (maybe a Navajo ply?). Which of these would be your first choice?

Treasures From The Warehouse

I’m on yarn overload lately. There’s so much new, gorgeous yarn in our store that it’s all blending together in my mind. A few days ago, I took a calming walk out in our warehouse and was reminded once again that there are treasures in our closeout aisles that, in any other context, would be aspirational fibers for any knitter or crocheter (or weaver, truth be told). It’s our luck that a manufacturer made too many of a certain color or just didn’t sell enough to sustain a particular yarn. We can offer those to you at way-lower-than-full-retail-price and you can stock up on some basics that will satisfy any craving. Here are my findings:

Amy discovers fantastic yarns in the warehouse at WEBS. Read more on the WEBS Blog at blog.yarn.com

Classic Elite Yarns Liberty Wool discontinued colors is a gem of a yarn. It’s machine washable and is a pleasing, straightforward worsted-weight workhorse that can handle a sweater, hat, mittens, perhaps a cowl or a scarf. Certainly a baby garment or blanket. The colors available, Orchid Pink, Sky, and Deep Teal, could work for almost any project.

The Fibre Company Road to China Worsted is a dreamy, lush yarn that screams “luxury” to me. It’s a beefy 4.5 stitches/inch on US size 9 needles, and the colors are what I like to call Anthropologie: earth tones, but not muddy browns and grays. Blues, yellows, a ruby red that is eye-catching, and the skein I picked up, in a color called Abalone, is an iridescent gray/green/blue mix that looks like a dragonfly wing. There’s nothing I wouldn’t knit in this lovely combination of baby alpaca, cashmere, camel, and silk.

Frog Tree has long been a favorite of mine. It’s a yarn company that takes what they do very seriously–providing soft, halo-y warm fibers to greedy knitters such as myself. Their Alpaca Sport Melange is a heathery, soft sport-weight that would be perfect for a hat, scarf, or a simple pullover. The bright colors alone would draw any fiber artist to them, but the price! $3.89 a skein, for a yarn that used to be twice that price is a fantastic deal. Stock up, not just on this yarn, but on any of the yarns in this post. And let me know what you’re knitting!

Are you a fan of Valley Yarns? Have you been meaning to try it for a while but just haven’t gotten around to it? Now’s the perfect chance during our Valley Yarns Flash Sale. You have through October 6, 2015 at 11:59pm EDT to save 30% on Valley Yarns!

Valley Yarns Flash Sale at WEBS

Valley Yarns is our own brand that we source from all over the world. We look for beautiful yarns that will last, and strive to have them at affordable prices. You may want to take this chance to check out our two newest yarns, Valley Yarns Hatfield and Valley Yarns Sunderland. Both of these 100% alpaca yarns are super warm.

Maybe merino is more your style? Take a look at Amherst. It’s one of my favorite Valley Yarns yarns because it is so soft. Prefer something without wool? Valley Yarns Southwick, Valley Yarns Longmeadow, and Valley Yarns Goshen are all wonderful cotton blends. I have a hard time knitting with cotton, but I must say, Goshen is one of my favorite yarns, and I’ve done several projects with it.

If you’re hoping for something machine washable, we have three weights of Valley Superwash, Worsted, DK, and Bulky, that are sure to fit whatever project you are looking to make. I’m actually thinking about some quick accessories in Valley Superwash Bulky, since the weather turned a bit chilly over the last few days, and we have some great bright colors that we’ve recently added to the line.

This is just a small sampling. No matter what Valley Yarns yarn you choose, you’ll love working with it. If you need inspiration, we also have a wonderful collection of Valley Yarns patterns designed exclusively for the yarn.

Don’t forget, until October 6, 2015 at 11:59pm EDT, you can save 30% on your purchase of Valley Yarns.

End of Summer Sale – Bulky yarns for quick projects

Tuesday, August 18th, 2015

Chilly Autumn days are just around the corner and we have some great yarns in our End of Summer sale perfect for working up chunky, last minute accessories and garments.

Plymouth Yarns Sophia Tweed in the WEBS End of Summer Sale, until Aug. 22, 2015 at yarn.com Great for quick knit, crochet or woven accessories! Read more on the WEBS Blog at blog.yarn.com

Plymouth Sophia Tweed not only has great color, but amazing texture as well. A lightly spun single of wool and acrylic is wrapped with a rayon thread for a thick and thin yarn with so much color! This yarn could be worked on smaller needles at a worsted gauge for a dense fabric or loose and light for bulky scarves and hats with lots of warmth but not a lot of weight. I even wove up a scarf on my cricket loom, I used a 5 dent reed, and it only took me 2 hours! 3 skeins would easily make two 60″ plainweave scarves, not bad for just under $21.

grandiosa

Grandiosa is a beautiful super bulky, wool and alpaca blend in hand dyed colors. Not only would this make super cozy accessories but great little sweaters, too.

deaire

If you’re looking for a bulky yarn that doesn’t weigh down your knitting then Plymouth DeAire is the yarn you’re looking for! With an I-cord construction there’s lots of air in this yarn giving you tons of warmth without the weight. It even knits up into wonderful blankets, like this one that only uses 9 skeins, less than $80 for that whole project!

Do you have a favorite go-to project for bulky yarn?
