Knitcircus Spring Issue Plus a Giveaway

Share Button

Hi Everyone,

The spring issue of the online magazine Knitcircus went up recently, and it’s definitely worth more than a once-over!

In this issue, you’ll find gorgeous shawls, beautiful garments for adults and kids, and great accessories. There are also a couple crochet patterns – a lovely shawl and a baby blanket and hat set. Here’s just a sampling of what you’ll find.

I’m particularly drawn to the socks that are pictured above. Since the beginning of the year, I’ve been knitting socks, pretty much exclusively to try and catch up on a sock club I’m part of, and I think these would be great to have in my sock pattern collection. They look simple enough to knit up fast, but with enough interest so I actually want to knit them.

Gerberada is a pretty shawlette that is knit in Valley Yarns Franklin. I love the touch of lace on the edge with the addition of a few beads for a hint of sparkle!

The issue is also packed with interesting, informative articles you can read for free, including one on Aran design and another on armholes. There is also a recipe for hazlenut macarons that is quite tempting. To download all of the patterns, it is $7.99, or you can get a 5 issue subscription for $23.50.

We’re giving away two spring issues and one subscription. To win, head on over to Knitcircus and take a look. Come back here and leave a comment with which pattern you want to cast on for right away. Winners will be selected randomly and announced Friday. Please leave your comment by Thursday, February 10th at 11:59pm EST.

Happy Browsing,

Mary

There are so many great looking patterns in this issue, but the slanting rib socks are really calling my name. I’m always eager to learn new sock techniques!

  12. Lgirouard Says:

Wow! I had never heard of Knitcircus before this posting from Webs. Lots of awesome articles & info & vendors, and Patterns, phew. I’d love to keep this in print form to refer to often. But, in response to Webs request for the patterrn that most inspires to cast on, I love Alcea shawlette. I am prgressing more & more with lace, having done one scarf, and never have made a shawl beforf. A shawlette like Alcea would be a fabulous next step. And more of a motive, I have a gorgeous blue silk dress bought in Hawaii this Christmas that is calling for a shawlette to cover the shoulders of. Something in the blues of the island waters would be perfect and bring me a reminder of that wonderful vacation during this past winter of so much snow! Linda G., East Brookfield, MA

Gerberada! Going to add it to my queue…I especially love that colorway. :)

  39. Smuddpie Says:

I love Alcia for lots of reasons. I’m a pretty new lace knitter, and I’m obsessed with smaller shawl type garments, simple lace, and malabrigo lace. Sigh….. It’s a great issue. I bought my first one this winter. I just have to say, why can’t the print magazines come up with article content like this? I really want to take the time to read this!

  40. Tina Jam Says:

I’d cast on the Naru scarf right away. It’s beautiful and simple – just right for my current skill level!

The Kalmia Beret is beautiful. I would knit it in a second to get me through this cold weather!

As a mother of a five years old boy, Squirm inmediately got my attention and my love for its no seams construction.

  60. Rachel Kloter Stansel Says:

Definitely the slanted rib socks! I am a bit on a sock kick lately!!

  61. Donna Tritz Says:

There are several things I want to make – more than one scarf/shawlette – Alcea being a favorite. But I just got my hair cut quite short & it’s still really cold in Chicago so I think I’ll be looking for my stash of Malabrigo & making Kalmya – a really beautiful hat.

  62. Karen Says:

The first thing I would make is the “Kalmya” Beret!!! I owe my sister a hat! Then the trellis, and those socks, and the scarves and shawls……..what a fantastic magazine!

  63. Suzanne Hickey Says:

I love the Naru scarf. It is very different than most scarves I have seen. I like that it is narrow, with an interesting lace that doesn’t look to hard to keep track of! The blue lupine mitts will be a second project! I have made many aran sweaters but the idea of designing my own is exciting! That will probably make the project list too. Oh my! Now all I need is time!

I have never seen Knitcircus before! Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

  64. Eileen Says:

I always love Knit circus, the lay outs are great. I love the pattern for the Blue Lupine Mitts.

  65. Dawn Says:

Dolce. I love how light and airy it looks!

Thank you for tipping me off to Knitcircus as I had never heard of them previously.

  66. MimiD Says:

Do I have to pick only 1?? What a great issue. If I pick a knitted one, it’s Alcea (lace collar). But what really struck me was crocheted: “Tic Tac Baby Hat and Blanket” Nice texture kept simple.

  67. Mollysmum Says:

There is so much to love about this issue. My daughter loves Three Ring to thats the winner!

  68. Laura Says:

What a fantastic issue! I can’t just pick one…but I’ll go with Dolce, I think…or maybe the Spring Sky Socks. And eventually the lupine mitts out of Shelter.

  69. Sally Says:

I think the first item I would make is Alcea by Susanna IC. I love her little lacy shawlettes.

  70. Dyetom Says:

I really like the Spring Sky Socks.

  71. Kat Says:

I like the Kalmia beret and the Blue Lupine Mitts. Both are really pretty, but wouldn’t take too long for a relatively new, therefore pretty slow, knitter like myself.

  72. enidb Says:

So many great patterns. I love the Spring Sky Socks. I knit my first pair of socks in the fall and am itching to cast on for a new pair.

  73. Virginia Says:

Love the Gerberada, that’s my first choice but with this issue I would make most of the patterns.

  74. Carla Says:

I like several things but perhaps Alcea the most

  75. Rachelle C Says:

I really want to cast on for Alcea; absolutely beautiful!

  76. D-rego Says:

I would love to cast on Alcea right away. It is a beautiful shawlette in my favorite yarn, Malabrigo lace.

  77. Elizabeth Says:

Me, I’d start by making the cookies! But I love the boys’ hoodie, squirm.

  78. Momaja Says:

What fun! I’ve been thinking about getting a subscription lately to Knitcircus as every issue seems to have something I want to add to my ever expanding queue. I think Alcea would probably be the 1st, although I might sneak a pair of Foilage. And I can’t decide if I want to make the Spring Sky Socks more because I like the pattern or they make me think of Spring (2 degrees right now with an expected low of -10 tonight…. ah, spring).

  79. Donna Says:

I love the Spring Sky Socks and the quick convenience of Zip!

  80. Cyndi Says:

Foliage it the pattern for me!

  81. Jenncurran Says:

I would love to make Dolce!!

  82. Jill Says:

I’ve been looking for a great beret pattern, so I would like to try the Kalmia right away!

  83. Steven Says:

Maybe because it’s pre-breakfast but Hazlenut Macaroons look mighty tasty.
But seriously, Squirm is great and my nephew would totally rock that hard.

  84. Deb Says:

I have been totally obsessed with cowls this year, so I would cast on the Ivy Tangle hat and cowl. Love the pattern and color. Knitcircus is fabulous.

  85. KellyH Says:

The Dakota Cowl is so lovely it’s making me do the “excited cat bum wiggle”. It’s totally going in my que!

  86. Karina Says:

I’ve been on a lace kick recently and Firey fits the bill. Although the Blue Spring Socks and the fingerless mitts are pretty cool too.

    Great magazine! I love Alcea!!

  88. Debra Says:

    I love Firey!!!!

  89. Teresa Says:

The pattern that’s speaking to me is the Tic Tac Blanket (p 83)

  91. susankou Says:

I so want to make the Gerberada. I’m knitting shawls for my wedding and I think this would be perfect!

  92. CatT Says:

I really like the Wandering Oak Hat. I’d definitely knit that.

  93. Janice in GA Says:

I really like the Trellis shawl! I don’t crochet much, but I think I could make an exception for that one. :)

  94. MelN Says:

I’m torn, I would love to make either the Dakota Cowl or Squirm right now. The Dakota Cowl looks wonderful because of this cold winter but I also know a little boy who would love Squirm too. What a wonderful issue.

  95. Katie Says:

I haven’t made a shawlette, so I’d love to make the Gerberada in a nice spring fiber. Or the Spring Sky Socks… I love cables and simple lace patterns!

  96. Barb Says:

It would be a hard choice for me. Probably one of the shawls as I love to do lace and I have some hand painted silk here that is begging to be used for that. I also do a lot of hats for charity and so the hat patterns would be quickly used as well.

  97. Susan aka reddirt Says:

I love the Dakota cowl! I don’t know if I’m smart enough to make it, but I certainly want to try!

  98. meow Says:

Alcea shawl will be nice for Spring!

  99. Jeanne Vb Says:

I absolutely love the shape and the lace pattern of Alcea. I’m on a shawl kick, and a purple kick, so it immediately struck me as something I’d like to make.

  100. Judy M Says:

Just ordered the one issue but would love to winthe subscription.

  101. JelliDonut Says:

Choosing is tough! Firey, for sure. Tic Tac is also adorable.

  102. Kathy Says:

So many cute patterns! But I think I’d have to do either Alcea or Kalmia first.

  103. Garnerdk Says:

Lots of choices, but I think first I’d like to knit the Dolce scarf out of some dreamy cashmere I have in my stash.

  104. EditorABC Says:

Love Dolce, but MUST make some Zips! It’s like a little cardigan for my coffee. *love* :)

  105. Sue G. Says:

It’s got to be the Gerberara. Love the yarn!

  106. Prymnumber Says:

Oh my! After browsing through the issue, I want to design my own Aran sweater!

  107. Bobo Cardwell Says:

I love doing hats so Kalmia is my first choice. And it’s made with Malabrigo!

  108. Bobo Cardwell Says:

Love Kalmia and it’s made with Malabrigo too.

  109. Pam Says:

I would also like to cast on the slanting rib socks. They look like they would work up nice in Plymouth Happy Feet dk yarn.

  110. Amanda Says:

Ooh, I like the Slanting Ribs sock and the idea of a new technique in making them!

  111. Julia Says:

I would like to cast on the Slanting Rib Socks. Thanks for the chance to win all these great patterns.
    Julia

  112. Yuki Says:

Without a doubt, I have to start Alcea – it’s so gorgeous and feminine, and I love malabrigo yarn :D

  113. Sara Says:

Had my heart set on Dolce until I saw Zip! Hmmmm, Dolce for me (and a Zip) then lots of Zips for Christmas gifts.

  114. Knitklm Says:

Sweet Tart. Yummy yarn and a quick project for my granddaughter!

  115. Dariasmom Says:

Love the clever little Zip design; so cute and very practical!

  116. Adrienne Says:

Dakota Cowl and the Blue Lupine Mitts. I am in love with that shade of Brooklyn Tweed’s Shelter!

  117. Ditetre Says:

I love Gerberada and just about everything else in this issue… many thanks for the contest!! Fingers and toes are crossed.
    ditetre(at)mac(dot)com

  118. Amanda Says:

Firey, the shawl on the cover, is my favourite from this issue. I love the autumn foliage colours in the yarn they used. I’ve been considering getting a subscription. This is a great idea for a contest!

  119. Krista Says:

Well, this issue looks like fun. First thing to go on my needles would be Squirm. In the meantime, I am thinking the Hazelnut Macarons would be instantly rewarding~!
