Project Ideas
We are constantly getting new sample projects done for the store. Two have shown up over the past couple of days that I want to share with you.
First off, this sweet little baby sweater:
I love the button detail:
It’s made from a brand new Spring ’09 yarn (yeah, I know, it’s November) called Bebe Cotsoy from Queensland. It’s 50% cotton/50% soy (I know – that really took you by surprise) knits at 5 sts = 1″ on #7 needles and each skein has 110 yards. It’s priced at $6.50 and is discountable. Look at the lovely colors:
The finished fabric has a slight sheen and feels soft and squishy. The pattern is included in the new Queensland Collection #8:
Then today, our store manager KT came into my office sporting these beauties:
These are the Teak Bittersweet Gauntlets and can be found in the recently released Boutique Knits by Laura Irwin (Interweave Press, 2008). It’s a collection of 20+ fun and funky accessories. (NOTE: If you click through to KT’s blog, you’ll see her darling rendition of the hat from the cover of Boutique Knits).
The book features the gauntlets in Rowan 4-ply soft but we opted to use the new Malabrigo Sock Yarn. The colorwork detail is done in a contrasting color in our sample, while the actual model in the book is the same color. Two very interesting effects. In using the Malabrigo Sock, you can get two pair out of one skein. Our sample knitter knocked these out in about 24 hours. Given the proximity of the holidays, this might be a project for you to consider.
Oh and one last note regarding the current Ready, Set, Knit KAL. Pixie has done something she rarely does. Pixie made a mistake. I know, I know, we are all in shock too, but here’s proof:
She was ripping back and picked up the wrong color. She was so far along when she noticed it, she just decided to let it go. It will be at the back of her neck, so only we will ever know it’s there 🙂
I also commented back but for those of you curious, Pixie is using Nashua Handknits Vignette in two different colors. I can’t wait to see your finished scarves!
Let me know what you think of these projects and if you need any suggestions for your holiday knitting!

I love the bunny buttons. I’ve never met a baby that liked having tight things pulled over his or her head.

The gauntlets are beautiful and 24 hours is not bad considering most are doing what they love =). The colors are terrific and quite reasonable.
