Guest: Kathy talks with Sarah about one of the new titles from Cooperative Press, Stitching in the Stacks: Librarian Inspired Knits.  Sarah was in school taking course in library sciences when she picked up knitting. She has been designing since 2005 and putting this book together has been great fun for her. The book contains 29 patterns that range from cardigans to shawls, accessories and even skirts.

Sarah designed the Book Woman Jacket, knit in our very own Valley Yarns Berkshire,  after discovering the story of the Book Women; the original book mobiles! Sent out during the 1930’s into rural Appalachia, these women rode horses, or mules, up to 20 miles per day to bring books and literacy into the mountain communities.

Be sure to check out the My Mountain Hat contest on the Schachenmayr website or on their Facebook page.

Reminder:

A copy of Big Foot Knits will be e-mailed to the following, randomly chosen, winners from the contest last week:

#1 – Sally who said, “I can knit a generic sock. Knitting a sock that fits is a different story. Thanks for writing this book.”

and

#2 – Naiaha who said, “This book would be great for me! I sometimes knit socks for myself (women’s size 5.5) but I more often knit socks for DH (men’s size 10.5.) When sock patterns provide only one size, it just doesn’t cut it!”

Thanks to everyone that commented, you had some great reasons for wanting (or needing!) this book:

– hubby has huge feet
– Because I collect GOOD sock books
– My son-in-law … wears a size 16-17 shoe… no patterns go this large.
– my feet are two different sizes so I’d like to learn how to make socks that fit both my feet!.
– Because I have so much sock yarn sitting around that I bought from WEBS!
– I love knitting awesome socks for my fabulously large feet.

– I … have, ahem, curvy foot proportions!

One of the newest collections available from Cooperative Press is Stitching in the Stacks – Librarian Inspired Knits. In that collection you’ll find the lovely Book Woman Jacket, by Sarah Barbour, which is worked in our Valley Yarns Berkshire in the Tan Heather colorway.

It features a cabled, double-breasted front closure and shawl collar as well as moss stitch hem details and pockets to keep you cozy. With over 40 colors of Berkshire to choose from this may just be the perfect jacket for all book women!

What color of Berkshire would you use?
