Kathy talks with Amy about her new book: Knit to Flatter – The only instructions you’ll ever need to knit sweaters that make you look good and feel great!

Amy talks about how she began with a series of online tutorials that she called Fit to Flatter which became a wonderful class  and is now a fantastic book! Knit to Flatter teaches you how to understand that the shape of your body, and not so much your numerical measurements, has a bigger impact on what garments look best on you and how to choose the right shapes to enhance your best features.

The Stoker pattern from Knit to Flatter, featuring Valley Yarns Stockbridge.

She also reminds us that it’s OK to use a pattern you really like as a starting point, altering it to fit your shape and that yarn choice make a big difference in the final garment.

Please join us on June 6th to meet Amy, celebrate the release of the book and get your own copy signed!

If you are local to WEBS and are looking for some fun things to do with your fiber friends, we have plenty of events to keep you busy in June!

On Thursday, June 14th we are excited to host the book launch for our very own Leslie Ann Bestor’s book Cast On, Bind Off! Join us from 6pm – 8pm to celebrate this comprehensive collection of all of her tips and tricks for dressing up the beginning and end of every project. (Leslie Ann is also teaching some of these techniques this summer! Find out more about her classes here.)

On Tuesday, June 5th Iris Schreier will join our regular Drop-In session!  Iris Schreier is the founder and designer of Artyarns, and author of One + One Scarves, Shawls & Shrugs. Stop in to meet and chat with her between 10am and 12pm and see many of the beautiful garments from the book.  Then feel free to stick around for a little advice on your current project.

On Friday, June 15th we will welcome designer Ysolda Teague to the store! From 4pm to 5:30pm Ysolda will hang out in the store for a meet-and-greet after she finishes teaching her class (more information on that class here). Swing by and say hello, she’ll be happy to answer a few questions or sign your book!

And, of course, there is the I-91 Shop Hop!  Eleven local yarn shops located along I-91 from Putney, VT to New Haven, CT are joining together for the second annual I-91 Shop Hop! This event is a fun way to visit new and interesting yarn shops in our area.

The I-91 Shop Hop will take place June 29th – July 1st.  All participating shops will be open from 10am–6pm on Friday & Saturday and 12pm–5pm on Sunday.  Find out how to purchase your passport and all of the other details here.

June is going to be such an exciting way to kick off the summer!  For details about registering for any of the events above, click the event image or visit our events page.

We were named a Top 20 finialist in the This Is Retail Contest. We submitted a two-minute video. Please go check it out and vote for us! http://www.RetailMeansJobs.com/thisisretail/SteveElkins Voting for the first round ends Sunday, April 8th. You’re allowed to vote 10 times per day per email address. Thank you for taking the time to vote!

Guest: Bruce Weinstein, author of Knits Men Want chats with Kathy. Bruce stresses that if there’s a failure with the sweater, it’s not you! It could be the choices you make for the sweater, but he’s certain it’s a fantastic garment. He says there are things you need to know, like Rule #7: Not all men are worthy of cashmere. Interestingly, Bruce’s other books are cookbooks, and he believes that a knitting book should be no different than a cookbook – patterns (recipes) should be tested and clear. Bruce also points out that many men have multiples of things (like 12 navy sweaters) because that’s what he likes.

Bruce will be at WEBS Thursday, April 26th at 6:00pm-7:30pm. He’ll also be bringing a treat from one of his cookbooks, so you’ll want to come visit with him if you’re close!

He also has a new cookbook coming out soon and a new knitting book headed for shops in December.
