The body of this cardigan is worked in one piece from the lower edge to the armholes, then divided for front and back. The sleeves are worked in the round from stitches picked up around the armholes. The sweater features a shaped waist and a square neckline. The ribbed cable and eyelet patterns are presented both in charts and in row-by-row instructions.
This week Kathy talks with first time guest Fiona Ellis. Fiona studied fashion design with a concentration in knitwear and specialized in hand knits – no programming knitting machines for her! She used to design Ready-to-Wear for mass production but made the switch to hand knit patterns when her first patterns appeared in Vogue Knitting in the late 90’s. Fiona specializes in colorwork and cables and her patterns include charts as well as written instructions. You can see the majority of her designs on Ravelry. Two of her latest feature Valley Yarns, Sugarbeach from Twist collective knit in Valley Yarns Longmeadow and Blue Helix from Knitter’s Magazine knit in Valley Yarns Colrain.
Check out Fiona’s website for even more designs!

We can’t believe it’s been 5 years since Twist Collective debuted. The Fall 2013 issue is out and we’re thrilled that it features two great patterns using our own Valley Yarns! Valley Yarns have been featured in many issues and we’re always excited to see what other designers are doing with our yarns.
First up is the Doverfell Cardigan, a zippered hoodie pattern available in both adult and child sizes.
This pattern features some gorgeous cables in combination with moss stitch for a body hugging dress that really shows off your curves, and with the saddle shoulder construction those sleeve cables aren’t interrupted at the shoulder.
What’s your favorite pattern from this collection?
If you haven’t begun following them on Facebook yet you may just want to! Twist Collective is celebrating their 5 year anniversary with all kinds of goodies and give-aways.
Guest: Kathy and Kate talk about the history of Twist Collective; they’ll be celebrating 5 years next summer!
Kate explains the process of choosing patterns, yarns and colors as well as the clothing to be worn with the new designs, and styling the models for the photo shoots.
They also discuss the painstaking tech-editing process each pattern goes through to provide the highest quality patterns.

Tomorrow team WEBS will once again be walking(while knitting!) and running in the Annual Hot Chocolate Run to benefit Safe Passage. Last year we raised $6000 dollars and we’d love to raise even more this year. If you’d like to help out, please visit our donation page. Kathy and Steve will be matching all donations made through till the start of the Race tomorrow morning!
WEBS is open Sundays through 12/23, from 12 to 5PM EST, for your holiday shopping convenience.
Have you had a chance to check out the latest issue of Twist Collective? We’re big fans of Twist Collective at WEBS.
The Fall 2012 issue is packed with fantastic patterns, but we’re pretty partial to Andover and Horatio and Oren. Both patterns feature our very own Valley Yarns.
Andover by Jean Chung is knit in super soft Valley Yarns Amherst. It is worked in one piece from the bottom up. The shawl collar, patch pockets, and elbow patches add a great detail to this comfortable cardigan that’s perfect for the cooler weather.
Horatio and Oren by Barbara Gregory are already on the must-knit list of many of the WEBS staff! With two sizes, this pattern makes a perfect option for gift knitting, and who can resist the adorable owls. The childrens size is knit in Valley Yarns Huntington and womens is knit in Valley Yarns Northfield. I’ve already picked out a color combination for a gift for someone on my to-knit-for list.
What’s your favorite project from the new Twist Collective?
We are wrapping up our week here at the Cape and it has been a great vacation. The trip has not been the reason I haven’t blogged. The blog was locked down by Blogger late last week. Their software identified a bunch of blogs as potential “spammers”. It was fixed within a day or so, but I didn’t realize this. It was posted here on “Blogger Buzz”, but I was waiting for an email response to my request for a “review” of my blog. Oh well, we are on vacation after all so it’s not as if I would have been posting everyday.
