The Buzz at WEBS – May 13, 2011
This week, we’re buzzing about Alpaca Silk, crochet, and more!
1. Wacky Woollies Ceramic Mug – This company is a new addition to the store. I love the whimsical design as much as I love the shape of the mug itself and how it feels when I hold it. We are also carrying totes and notebooks from them as well! > Kathy E.
2. The Vintage Modern Knits book was an instant favorite of mine when it first arrived, and now that we have the trunk show of the garments in the store, I can’t wait for some time to sit down and start a project. One item that I guess I had overlooked in the book was the Margarethe Shawl. But once I tried it on, I never wanted to take it off! Fibre Company Road to China Light is unbelievably cozy. (Also high on my knit-list: Brigid Jacket and Telemark Leg Warmers) > Tina M.
3. Crochet by Faye Tusculum Cowl – I just completed this cowl as a store sample and it was a super fun project! The main motifs are done with Lorna’s Laces Honor and it worked up beautifully. (I have both knit and crocheted with this yarn and it’s just lovely!) The edging is done with Blue Sky Alpacas Silk and I love the way the edging plays off the motifs. The motifs are joined as you go, so the only finishing is weaving in ends! > Mary K.-H.
4. I’m so excited to teach this summer’s Design Your Own Crocheted Cowl class. Using Linda Schapper’s Complete Book of Crochet Stitch Designs and Complete Book of Crochet Border Designs opens up a world of almost unlimited stitch combination heaven! I can’t wait to see what my students come up with 🙂 > Sara D.
5. Blue Sky Alpacas Alpaca Silk – I just love this yarn. It has great drape a little bit of sheen and is nice and soft. It is a little bit of luxury, but will stand the test of time. It holds up to those moments when you need to frog and re-knit multiple times, and still looks good as new (ask me how I know). > Kristin L.

Good to know that the Blue Sky Alpaca Silk is so sturdy! I have a whack of it in my stash, meant for a sweater for the husbeast, and have swatched a bit — I guess I can swatch some more.
