The Buzz at WEBS

The WEBS staff are buzzing about sock knitting, monsters, spinning, and more this week.

The Buzz at WEBS - April 8, 2011

1. Fit to Flatter class on April 25th with Amy Herzog – I took Amy’s class earlier this year and found it so helpful in thinking about garments that flatter my shape, and understanding basic principles of fit, body-type and design. Amy is knowledgeable and puts everyone at ease, making for an incredibly fun class! > Tina M.

2. Abstract Fiber Targhee – I’m spinning some up at home right now. > Kirsten H.

Soft & luscious with rich color. How many different ways can this top be spun? > Dolly H.

3. Skacel Addi Turbo Lace 40″ Circular Needles – I have been knitting socks (many different pairs!) almost exclusively since the end of December and have used my 40″ Addi Lace 2.5mm needle for nearly all of them (magic loop). I love the points and the cable stands up to the tugging, pulling, and tucking in and out of my bag. > Mary K.-H.

4. The Big Book of Knitted Monsters by Rebecca Danger – My knitting can’t keep up with the speed my kids are growing. They outgrow the socks I’m knitting before I can finish them. Solution: turn the yarn into knitted monsters! > Dena C.

5. The Knitter’s Handy Guide to Yarn Requirements by Ann Budd – This great little guide is without a doubt the best $5.95 you will ever spend. We use it in the store all the time and I have at least 3 copies at home in various knitting bags. The guide gives yarn yardage requirements for multiple sizes and multiple yarn gauges for mittens, gloves, socks, tams, hats, scarves, sweaters and vests. I’ve used it to calculate yardage for blankets & afghans as well by using the scarf chart and simple math. > Kathy E.

6. Dream in Color Smooshy with Cashmere – One of my new can’t wait to try out yarns, already bought it and put it in my sock yarn stash! Why do I like it so much? It has 20% cashmere in it, along with 70% Superwash Merino and 10% Nylon! My feet will be so happy when I get a pair of socks knit out of this luscious yarn!  I told Steve they should have named it “Extra Smooshy”! > Karen M.
