Valley Yarns Show & Tell: Fisherman’s Rib Cardigan
Our Valley Yarns Show & Tell for this week features #358 Fisherman’s Rib Cardigan. This one is knit in Valley Yarns Amherst, our super soft 100% merino. The lofty brioche stitch is sure to keep you warm. It is Kirsten’s take on the “grandpa sweaters” in the fashion magazines.
We tried on the 36″ cardigan.
First up, we have Kirsten:
Height: 5’3″
Bust: 37″
Waist: 30″
Hips: 42″
Kirsten said: “Super comfy, but I’d use a different color and I’d make the v-neck higher up.”
Grace –
Height: 5’0″
Bust: 38″
Waist: 30″
Hips: 38″
Grace said: “This was really comfortable and a great cozy sweater. I would make it shorter at the waist and the sleeves.”
Dena –
Height: 5’4¾”
Bust: 35½”
Waist: 29½”
Hips: 40″
Dena said: “As much as I love Amherst and how soft it is, I felt like I was wearing my grandfather’s sweater. Bad length for me and my least favorite color.”
Mary –
Height: 5’4″
Bust: 41½”
Waist: 34½”
Hips: 44½”
Mary said: “I really want to love this sweater because Amherst is one of my favorite yarns, but I can’t. The length, plus the position of the pockets and the fluffy stitch just make me feel bulky. I’m also not a fan of the color.”
Tina –
Height: 5’2″
Bust: 40″
Waist: 33½”
Hips: 43″
Tina said: “While this sweater is cozy, it is not the right shape on me at all. It is too long for me and the low buttons, pockets and ribbing just add thickness where I don’t need it. However, I am a huge fan of pockets in my skirts, so we were all laughing about how many pockets I was wearing at the same time in that moment. ”
Erin –
Height: 5’8″
Bust: 35″
Waist: 27″
Hips: 36½”
Erin said: “I love this yarn for this sweater. It would be a good knock-around wardrobe piece. It fits perfect, if a bit snug in the hips when buttoned.”
Next week, we’ll feature the Gathering Cardigan.
Happy Knitting!
Mary

The wonderful aspect of knitting is that you can take a good basic pattern like this one and with simple changes make it uniquely your own. Amherst comes in many delightful colors. It is my favorite worsted weight yarn.

I deeply appreciate your posting the photos on different size bodies so I can decide how something would look on my body. Thank you so much!
